Play Assertive and Play Angry

Posted by admin on May 7, 2010

Jason Quick, the Trailblazers beat reporter, was talking about Brandon Roy and talked about how he should play angry in the next game. I have to agree with him and I find that when I grapple or even when I practice that when I play with a chip on my shoulder I always do better for psychological reasons. I feel like I have something to prove and I am sure to go out and prove it to everyone. I take the gym and mat with assertiveness and I bring to bear all my training. But, in this current stretch of games the Trail Blazers played without energy, and played without passion and definetly did not have an assertive forceful will.  So when they get their leader on the court with fire in his belly who is going out there decisively with the cleverness to use his fire to his best ability, then that is probably a very good thing for his team and a very bad thing for their opponents.

Sinestro is right

Posted by admin on November 3, 2009

Dude… Sinestro was totally right…

In Green Lantern First Flight.  Hal Jordan is green behind the ears and Sinestro is the grizzled vet who has seen too much and probably understands the world better than his rookie counterpart. He’s seen the underbelly of the world(s) and he’s none too impressed and is convinced that you have to hit harder when you get hit.  Or as Batman would say, “the world only makes sense when you force it to.” – Batman: Return of the Dark Knight. Aquaman – A Small Knife – A Missing Hand

Posted by admin on November 3, 2009

Aquaman chewed off his own hand, are you willing to do it too?

Ok, so he didn’t chew it off.  I actually forgot what he did until I started writing, but let me tell you about it.

In Justice League (the cartoon), Aquaman is chained to a rock and basically pushed down a hill attached to this rock, his son is also trapped on it (who is a baby at the time).  Aquaman manages to pull himself free of one side of the chains, but realizes that he cannot remove the other side of the chain fast enough.  He has to make a hideous choice, as they both approach the lava below (I didn’t mention that, but that would have been certain doom even for him).  How can he save his son, get revenge, and remove the chain to make it all possible.  He removes a small knife from his belt buckle (which happened to be a knife for some reason) and begins to peck away at the stone, it’s not working.  So he makes the only choice possible, he hacks his hand off.

Next scene, we see him carrying his baby son and meeting up with his wife and the rest of the leaguers.  It is now that his wife notices that his hand is missing, and she asks him why, and his only reply is… Continue reading »

Your Real Green Power Ring

Posted by admin on November 2, 2009

Your Green Power Ring is your own body and your own mind.  It’s not a mistake that the thing that Hal Jordan is most known for is his willpower and his ring answers to its might.  The human weapon is a product of your willpower or your lack of it.  The truth is, that you could have just about anything you want, if you can steer your body to do it for you (for most people).

“We forge our bodies under the fire of our own wills,” – PP. Enter the Dragon Continue reading »

Intimidation is your greatest ally in a fight

Intimidation is your greatest ally in a fight

Let me tell you a story told by Sifu Paul Vunak (legendary martial artist who taught Navy SEAL Team 6 for 2 years, and is one of Black Belt Magazine’s 25 Toughest Men Alive). Paul Vunak, in the Enigma, relates a story about Sifu Larry Hartsell (the late, great Larry Hartsell). He details about how Dan Inosanto (best friend of Bruce Lee and Jeet Kune Do Legend) and Larry Hartsell went for drinks together and how 3 guys decided they wanted to pick a fight with Sifu Hartsell.

Dan Inosanto followed them out, and the biggest one drew a knife on Larry Hartsell as they were staring each other down.

Larry Hartsell then proceeded to punch the smallest one right in face, who collapsed and started bleeding. Sifu Hartsell then proceeded to bend down and wipe the blood across his face, and said… Continue reading »
